Winter Regional Champs 2018!

Eight of DSC’s incredible performance and sprint swimmers competed at this years’ Winter Regional Championships held at Inspire in Luton over the weekend of 3rd and 4th November 2018.  This was a short course level one meet, where only the best competitive swimmers from each club in the East region attended.  From DSC for the boys we had Michael Judd, Walter Hackett, Ollie Ellison and Jamie Hose. For the girls we had Jessica Kefford, Millie Dudley, Ruby Collins and Maia Morgan. Astonishing swims from all of them…

Michael Judd (20) – Michael gave some amazing performances over the weekend.  He started the competition with the gruelling 200IM and put in a very gutsy swim of 2.18.23  His 50m FC was just outside PB, but still a brilliant 25.99.  He then swam a very convincing 100 bk in a time of 1.00.28. His 50 bk was a fantastic pb in 28.26, and he swam his 100IM in 1.02.52.  Just outside his pb in the 50m br in 31.65 but then produced a blistering 200m bk in 2.09.53.  Some sensational swimming from Michael with some extremely fast turns – well done!

Jessica Kefford (14) – An amazing clean sweep of PB’s for Jess in all her 3 distances of backstroke. Not pb’ing since Jan 2018 in 50m bk Jess pulled out a 32.07 pb – brilliant!.  In her 200m bk she swam a staggering 2.28.91 pb and winning her heat.  In her 100m bk she swam a huge pb in 1.07.98 – truly brilliant Jess!

Ollie Ellison (15) – Ollie qualified for the 50m FC and the 50m bk fairly recently and showing he is on form.  Swimming 26.53 and 30.81 respectively which is on PB – well done Ollie.

Jamie Hose (19) – Jamie has now moved on to university and is training out of the UEA pool in Norwich.  He qualified for the gruelling 200m fly! He swam this very convincingly and gained a massive pb of 2.27.24 – well done Jamie!

Ruby Collins (14) – Ruby qualified for the 50m fc and this was her winter regional champ debut.  She swam it in 29.19 a fantastic new PB for Ruby – well done!

Maia Morgan (15) – Maia qualified for the 50m br and achieved a massive pb in 36.53 also achieving a new club record – brilliant swimming Maia – well done!

Millie Dudley – (13) – Millie was right on pace for her 100m IM and produced an excellent time of 1.11.94. In Millie’s 50m fly she swam a fantastic 30.93 which was a short course PB, and finally her 50m fc in 29.53 yet another PB – Well done Millie!

Walter Hackett – (15) – Walter produced some astonishing swims especially for just 15 years old! He began his championships with a 50m FC and equalled his PB coming 5th overall in his 15 yrs age group in a time of 25.44. He then produced a blistering 100m br in a new pb of 1.10.25 bringing him 5th place again for the 15 yrs.  He swam his 100m bk in 59.90, followed quickly by a 50m bk in a new pb of 27.2.  This immediaely propelled him into a final for this event going in in 7th place out of all the age groups! In Walters 100IM he achieved a new pb in a time of 1.03.01 giving him 4th place in the age group, and for his 100m FC he achieved a huge pb in a time of 56.06 giving him 6th place in his 15 yr age group. Walter then went on to swim a terrific 200m bk in a time of 2.09.4 a new pb and securing a winters national time! 

For the nail biting 50m backstroke final Walter put in another shift and swam it again in 27.25 putting him in 6th place overall in the region and at just 15 years of age this is truly magnificent!  Walter was very pleased with himself for a debut performance.  New club records were taken in 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke and the 100m breaststroke and 100m IM – very well done Walter.
