Watford Regional Qualifier!

DSC recently competed at the Watford Regional Qualifier that took place on the weekend of 3 and 4 March 2018 at the Woodside Leisure Centre in Watford.  This was a level 3 meet, which meant that any regional qualifying times swum would count in regionals later on in the year – an important meet for our swimmers! This is a long weekend of swimming, but DSC performed brilliantly as our results show….

Highlights of the Watford Open results are as follows;

Kieran Murray (15) kicked off the meet for Dunstable with a brilliant 400m Freestyle in an impressive new pb of 4.48.18 gaining 4th place. This was quickly followed by new swimmer to DSC Adeola Akande (11) who swam an impressive 200 IM in 3.28.16 gaining 4th place.  Adeola also gained a bronze medal in her 50m breaststroke in a time of 45.99

Bryony Mathias (11) gained a great bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle in a time of 1.16.20.  

Billy Mead (13) won a fantastic gold medal in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.26.37 and only narrowly missing an RQT, he went on to win two further silver medals – 200m breaststroke in 3.09.60 and the 50m breaststroke in 39.20.  Walter Hackett (15) gained a silver in the same race in a time of 1.12.54.  Will Richards (16+) gained a fabulous RQT in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.10.24 and won a bronze medal.

Jessica Kefford (14) secured a silver medal in 50m backstroke in a time of 32.99, while brother Elliot Kefford (12) also secured a silver medal in the 50m butterfly in a time of 35.79.  In the same race Walter Hackett (15) gained a gold medal in a time of 28.84. Walter also won silver in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2.08.31, in the same race Will Richards gained a silver medal in a time of 2.02.56.

It was Gold medals all round for the Porzio sisters.  Amelia Porzio (10) was 1st place in the 200m breaststroke, while sister Isabella Porzio (14) was 1st in 2.59.48 (first time ever under 3m) and 2nd in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.23.67.  Amelia also won gold for 50m breaststroke in a time of 48.28, a gold in the 100m breaststroke in 1.47.92 and finally a bronze in the 50m freestyle in a time of 36.86.

Jessica Kefford secured a gold medal in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.11.50, while in the same race brother Elliot picked up a silver medal securing his 100m backstroke RQT, with Elliot also striking gold in the 50m freestyle in a fabulous time of 30.52.

Maia Morgan (15) had a great meet gaining a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 36.68 securing her a winter RQT.  In her 100m breaststroke race she came in 5th position but broke a 30 year old DSC club record!

Louis Ellison (11) also had a great competition, pb’ing in all of his 3 races (50m free, 50m bk, 100m bk) and securing 3 brand new county times for next year.

Walter Hackett continued medaling and gained a gold medal in the 50m freestyle in a time of 26.38, a gold in the 200m IM in a time of 2.18.25, again in the 50m backstroke in 28.18 and one final one in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.00.34.  He also secured a silver in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 33.75.

Other fabulous swims came from Sam Mead (16+) in the 200IM winning a silver medal in a time of 2.25.39.  Sam made 4th place in his 50m backstroke but secured his winter regional qualifying time.  He also gained a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 2.42.35. In Sam’s 50m breaststroke he bettered his summer RQT in a time of 33.62.

In the girls 200m freestyle Millie Dudley (14) gained a bronze medal in a time of 2.18.42, and in her 50m freestyle she won a silver in a time of 29.61.

Jennifer Davies (11) came third and won a bronze medal in her 100m butterfly in a time of 1.31.16.

In the last session and the very final race of the day Ruby Collins (14) won a bronze medal in her 50m freestyle in a great time of 29.85.
