Watford County Qualifier Open Meet November 2019!
DSC recently competed at the Watford Open over the weekend of 16 and 17 November 2019. This is always a fabulous meet, and DSC always swim really well – this meet being no exception. A large squad competed, and came away from the weekend with lots of brand new county qualifying times, brand new club records, PB’s and medals galore. Well done to all those that competed over this weekend.
Bryony Mathias and Jenny Davis (12) kick started this meet with the gruelling 400m freestyle, both with huge PB’s! Quick times for both girls (Jenny’s being a time trial). Times were clocked at 5.24.27 and 5.25.01 respectively, with a 20 or so second PB for both! In the same race Millie Dudley (15) claimed a silver medal in 4.53.13.
The boys and girls 100m breaststroke followed with a PB from Francesca Humphrey (11), Veronika Popow and Jenny Davis (12) PB’s, and a silver from Veronika, Maisie Humphrey (13) PB and Maia Morgan (16) with a bronze medal. For the boys it was a bronze for Daniel Richards (15) PB, and Walter Hackett (16) bronze and PB.
In the 100IM, Katie Pidgeon (11) achieved a huge PB, along with Jenny Davis, Walter Hackett (Silver and PB) and Thomas Fantini (16) another huge PB.
In the 200m backstroke (12’s) PB’s were achieved by Jessica Medlicott along with a bronze medal, Veronika Popow and Bryony Mathias both pb’d too. In the same race Jessica Kefford (15) won a bronze medal.
In the 100m Freestyle Girls, PB’s were achieved by Katie Pidgeon (11), Jessica Medlicott, Hannah Swan, Jenny Davis (12), Maisie Humphrey (13), Chloe Medlicott (14) and Millie Dudley (15) who also won the gold medal in her age category. A silver was also won by Rhianne Carrick in the 15’s. Annabella Vassallo-Todaro and Eloise Harper both 15 also achieved PB’s. In the 100m Freestyle for boys, it was straight pb’s for for Daniel Richards (15) and in the (16 and overs for) Walter Hackett (Gold in 54.38), Callum Shepherd, Daniel Tuffnell and Thomas Fantini.
Two big swims came next in the girls 200mIM with Rhianne Carrick winning the gold in 2.34.94 (big pb) and Millie Dudley the bronze in 2.37.37. For the boys in the same race we saw a bronze achieved by Callum Shepherd in 2.27.75.
Next came the 50m butterfly for girls with a new pb and new club record from Jenny Davis (12) in 34.08, Hannah Swan in 38.17, Maisie Humphrey in 34.13 and finally for the boys, silver for Michael Judd in 27.48 pb and bronze for Walter Hackett in 27.68 pb.
Astonishing swims for DSC’s 12 year old girls in the 100m backstroke with straight PB’s from Veronika Popow (bronze) in 1.16.48, Jessica Medlicott, Jenny Davis, Bryony Mathias and Hannah Swan. In the same race Millie Dudley (15) took the bronze in a great PB of 1.12.32.
In the 200m breaststroke Francesca Humphrey (11) had a superb swim with a new pb of 3.56.58, and for Veronika Popow (12) a new pb and a bronze medal in 3.09.74.
Jenny Davis (12) then swam the 100m butterfly achieving a huge new PB in 1.19.29 taking the bronze and achieving a brand new club record. Our senior girls of Millie Dudley and Rhianne Carrick (15) both then took the gold and silver in the same race, with Rhi achieving a huge new PB in a fab time of 1.12.51!
Finally in this 3rd session we had the boys and girls 50m breaststroke. Straight PB’s from the boys in the 14 yr and 16/over age groups with George Wallis-Smith, Callum Shepherd and Thomas Fantini all competing. From the girls (10’s) PB’s from Amber Flitton, Katie Pidgeon, Zuzanna Gasiewska and Francesca Humphrey. We also saw straight PB’s in the 12 year old girls from Jessica Medlicott, Hannah Swan and Bryony Mathias. Finally in the 15 yr old girls, Rhianne Carrick took the silver medal in 38.39.
In the 4th and final session of the weekend, Walter Hackett achieved a new PB in the 200m freestyle of 1.58.93 and took the bronze medal. We also saw fabulous PB’s from Bryony Mathias and Hannah Swan with 2.30.14 and 2.37.47 respectively. Millie Dudley clinched the silver medal in her 200m freestyle with Amy Shaw also achieving a new PB in the same race.
In the 50m backstroke for boys and girls George Wallis-Smith and Thomas Fantini both PB’d and for the girls it was gold for Amber Flitton in a new PB of 42.73 and Olivia Cooper in a PB of 44.90 both brand new county times. We also saw Katie Pidgeon, Zuzanna Gasiewska and Jessica Medliott all PB in this race for the 11 and 12 yr age groups. In the 15 yr age group Rhianne Carrick took the silver medal, with Bethany Harwood also achieving a 2 second pb in the same race.
In the gruelling 200m butterfly we saw Jenny Davis (12) take the silver medal, in a brilliant new PB of 3.01.60 taking 6 seconds off her entry time, and achieving a brand new club record!
The final race of the weekend was the 50m freestyle for boys and girls. Big pb’s from Arlo Cooke (10) 3 seconds, Olivia Cooper (10) 6 seconds, Libby Fowler, Katie Pidgeon and Zuzanna Gasiewska (11) 3 and 4 second pb’s. Hannah Swan (12) 3 second PB, and straight pb’s from our 15 year old girls consisting of Rhianne Carrick, Annabella Vassallo-todaro, Amy Shaw, Bethany Harwood and Eloise Harper.

Following this meet, two of DSC’s swimmers Olivia Cooper and Amber Flitton (10) made their way over to the Crusaders Last Chance Open Meet that took place in Bletchley. This gave the girls another chance to catch those elusive county times. Both girls had amazing results over the weekend of 23 and 24 November clinching 2 golds, 4 bronze, 4 County Qualifying Times and a whole raft of PB’s between them. Very well done girls everyone at DSC is very proud of you!
