Stroke Clinic 2 – Small Pool

Session 1 & 2 Small Pool

Squad Outline

 

This squad aims to develop the fundamentals of efficient swimming strokes and builds on the foundations already in place from previous swimming experience in a swim school environment. The work undertaken will introduce the breakdown of all competitive strokes and build up the relevant skills needed.

 

Furthermore, to introduce competitive swimming and different swimming events.

 

Admission Procedure

 

Trial Swimmers Entry - at the discretion of the Head Coach

The requisite skills that swimmers should have prior to admission are as follows:

  • Willing to listen, learn and follow instructions
  • Demonstrate a recognised stroke in Frontcrawl and  Backstroke, with a basic understanding of Breaststroke

Swimmers within this squad will normally be aged 7 - 10 years old.

 

Aims & Objectives of Stroke Clinic 2 – Small Pool Session 1

 

  • Focus on the development of efficient Frontcrawl and Backstroke
  • To introduce the fundamentals of efficient Breaststroke
  • To introduce rotational skills as a positive transfer to competitive turns
  • To introduce submersion skills as a positive transfer to diving
  • Use of sculling techniques to aid swimmers 'feel' for the water and to aid skill acquisition
  • Knowledge of basic Competitive Swimming Rules
  • To introduce swimmers to competitive swimming opportunities
  • To meet criteria to gain admission into the Stroke Clinic 2 – Session 2

 

Aims & Objectives of Stroke Clinic 2 – Small Pool Session 2

 

 

  • Focus on the development of efficient Frontcrawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke
  • To introduce the fundamentals of efficient Butterfly
  • To further enhance rotational skills as a positive transfer to competitive turns
  • To develop aerobic stamina to prepare the swimmer for the additional workload requirements of Stroke Clinic 1 – Main Pool
  • To further enhance submersion skills as a positive transfer to diving
  • Use of sculling techniques to aid swimmers 'feel' for the water and to aid skill acquisition
  • Knowledge of basic Competitive Swimming Rules
  • To introduce swimmers to competitive swimming opportunities
  • To introduce the understanding of the Individual Medley
  • To meet criteria to gain admission into the Stroke Clinic 1 – Main Pool
  • To encourage attendance at Saturday morning sessions to work towards the ASA Competitive Start Award.

 

Commitment

 

Recommended - Attend a minimum of one/two weekly training sessions.

To be ready for swimming 5 minutes before the session begins.

To be available to represent the club in Galas if selected

To enter club Splash Nights
