We
have devised a squad structure to provide a progressive platform to allow each
swimmer to develop their swimming ability in a supportive and structured environment.
Each Squad has
specific aims and objectives tailored to the level of the development of the
swimmers within that squad. Specific criteria have been established for entry
into each squad and for progression onto the next level.
Stroke Clinic
This squad aims to develop
the fundamentals of efficient swimming strokes and builds on the foundations
already in place from previous swimming experience in a swim school
environment. The work
undertaken will introduce the breakdown of all competitive strokes and build up
the relevant skills needed.
Swimmers in this squad will
be introduced to competitive swimming opportunities and different swimming
events.
Development Squad
This
squad is the first stage of the DSC competitive coaching programme. The training undertaken consolidates all
previously learned skills, continuing the development of technique and swimming
skills to a higher level. There is an increased amount of swimming endurance
work, including swims at threshold level. This is designed to enable each swimmer to gain
experience of a wide range of swimming events.
Swimmers in this squad are
aiming for County age group qualifying times.
Transition Squad
This squad is the second stage of the DSC
competitive coaching program and the first stage of the advanced training. This level is the stepping-stone in the
development of swimmers to compete at senior level. Swimmers are expected to
compete in all strokes, distances and individual medley events. The work
undertaken will consolidate all previously learned skills, with new training
aims to include work at and above threshold level, the development of the
anaerobic system where appropriate and to introduce mental preparation for
training and competition. programme
Swimmers in this
squad are expected to achieve 5 County age group qualifying times with the
stretch goal of achieving Eastern Region qualification.
Performance Squad
This squad is the highest stage of the
advanced competitive training programme. On
promotion to this squad, swimmers will already be showing a high level of
commitment. The squad consists of talented, motivated individuals who have the
dedication and desire to train and compete at the highest level. This group is aimed at
producing excellence and therefore members are expected to make a total
commitment to the achievement of high performance. The programme provides a specialised training regime designed to enhance each
individual’s strengths in terms of stroke and distance.
