Splash 1 Homecoming and Alumni!

DSC celebrated it’s glittering homecoming to the Dunstable Leisure Centre in style on Saturday 29th February 2020, when it held it’s first Splash of the year for past and present.  We enjoyed some 140 swimmers compete in the frantic 50’s and also including the 100IM, and for the younger swimmers the 25m swims.  Naturally we witnessed some fantastic swimming right from our Academy through to our Performance squads, but also had DSC coaches past and present competing making for a totally brilliant night!  We also had the great privilege of welcoming back Harry Constantine who is an ex Dunstable swimmer.  On the radar now for the 2024 Olympic Games, he is certainly one to watch and everyone was glued poolside when he dived in!

The format for this first splash gala was also brilliant.  The evening was run so that we would have races from our current swimmers girl/boy and then an Alumni would take place.  Around 25 swimmers were included in this, and it really was great fun especially when at the end of one lane was crammed full of DSC youngsters willing on senior coach Manda Hackett.  We also welcomed back Ollie Hibbitt our Ex-Assistant Head Coach who swam brilliantly, and so did our current AHC Ryan Currell.  Director of Swimming Tim Hutton also competed in the backstroke and freestyle events proving that he still had what it takes.

Effortless swimming by champ Harry Constantine who has just returned from Australia training with World Champion Adam Peaty.  All eyes on him to see his development, and we were not disappointed.

Alongside the swimming was of course the fundraiser.  We welcomed so many families and friends, the gallery and reception areas were packed to the rafters.. A fantastic amount of money was raised for the club and for that we are very grateful to all who donated and supported the evening.

Of course these events cannot run without a fabulous DSC committee including a very dedicated Chairman Paula Ellison, a fantastic Splash night organiser our very own internal galas’s secretary Sarah Cooper and for all committee members who worked on the night to make this a great success.

DSC would also like to thank all it’s coaches, officials and all other parent volunteers – without everyone pulling together, these events could not happen.

DSC now turn its attentions to the Watford Regional Qualifying Open Meet and The Harpenden Frantic 50’s both happening this coming weekend, and then the continuation of the Chiltern League Campaign Round 2 on 21st March (DSC are currently 1st place in the league) along with Luton Level 1 open on the same day.  A busy Spring for DSC indeed…
