Scottish Nationals and Open Water Champs 2017!

Three of DSC’s fantastic swimmers have a lot to be proud about over the last few weeks.  DSC’s senior swimmer Alex Neeson qualified at Scottish Regionals to swim at Scottish Nationals and fly the flag for DSC.  Alex swam brilliantly in Edinburgh and qualified for the finals. Further details in this report.  Then Alex, Callum Shepherd and Isabella Porzio travelled to the East Region Open Water Championships in Norfolk to compete there with further amazing results….

Alex Neeson recently competed in the Scottish Swimming Summer Meet.  Invitations to compete were generated based on performances recorded during a qualification window running from 10 March to 29 May 2017.  After selection for the British Summer Championships, the next ranked Scottish eligible swimmers in each age group were invited to participate in the Scottish Summer Meet.  Alex qualified to compete in the 200m Butterfly in the 17/18 yr age group and headed to the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh to take part.

In the morning session Alex won his heat recording a fantastic time of 2:25.07, this was a new long course PB a lifetime best and club record! and secured him a place in the final later that day.  His second swim that day resulted in him finishing 7th in his age group in a time of 2:27.66.  Well done Alex for some really awesome performances.

On Sunday 16th July Alex Neeson, Callum Shepherd and Isabella Porzio travelled to Whitlingham in Norfolk to compete in the East Region Open Water Championships.  This was Isabellas debut at an event like this, so there was certainly excitement but also trepidation.  The event was enjoyed by all three swimmers which consisted of a 1.5km freestyle open water swim.  When the final results were called in, Alex had won regional silver and county gold for his amazing efforts, Callum Shepherd won a fantastic county silver and Isabella came in in a very impressive 35th place, making her 4th in Bedfordshire.

DSC would like to say a massive well done to all three swimmers on a job well done, and showing real character and stamina in this event.
