"Breaks put on Speeding Dunstable"
The first round of Chiltern League proved to be an exciting evening for Dunstable Swimming Club with a number of our younger swimmers competing in their first team gala away from home at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard. The competition was nearly all local being Leighton Buzzard, Linslade Crusaders, Putteridge Piranhas, Hemel Hempstead, and Banbury.
Dunstable got off to a flying start with a win for Rachel E. but unfortunately due to the rules of the event with no faster-than-times they were awarded their first speeding ticket of the evening.
Due to a couple of unavoidable absences the younger club members rose to the occasion and quickly gained enough experience to make them seasoned veterans, often swimming up an age group or two. Special mention should go to Harry C. who, at the tender age of 11 swam for the team in the 16+ age group to make up team numbers and acquitted himself with great credit.
Dunstable's Team Manager, Doug Hose, would also like to mention both girls and boys aged 10+under teams who, despite their lack of years, overcame their nerves to proudly represent their club and town.
Unfortunately, due to our speeding senior squad swimmers and rookie juniors Dunstable failed to score points in nearly a third of races and consequently finished sixth. However, the squad is far from downcast and will be looking to make good in Round two next month, with anchors on our fastest swimmers !
Biggleswade Open Meet Report

Dunstable Swimming Club had continued success this weekend against clubs from as far away as Lincoln at the Biggleswade Open Meet. Reese Housden picked up 3 golds in the 200m Breastroke and both the 50m Fly and Breastroke, along with a silver in the 400m Freestyle, narrowly missing out on gold by 2 seconds. Sam Mead was only just outside the medals in a very close 50m Backstroke race, missing out on a bronze by 0.14 seconds with a time that equalled his personal best. He also improved on his 200m Freestyle County qualifying time by a further 4 seconds with a new personal best. Lucy Cooke had an excellent weekend of swimming by improving on her personal best times in both the 100m Breastroke and 200m Backstroke by an impressive 9 seconds and by getting further personal best times in the 50m Breaststroke and Backstroke. It was Eleanor King's first time competing at an open meet where she achieved personal best times in her 50m Backstroke, Fly and Freestyle events, while Rachael Dawson also reached a new personal best time in the 100m Freestyle. Chantal Smith also put in a sterling performance with personal best times in the 100m Breaststroke, Backstroke and 50m Fly.
