National Arena Swimming League 2019!
DSC’s National Arena Swimming League started it’s campaign in Tamworth on 12th October 2019. Travelling up by coach, the squad were in great spirits as they arrived at the snow dome where the swimming took place. A fabulous atmosphere was to follow as DSC’s supporters were also in fine voice on the gallery and cheered the team home to a respectable 4th place position in this 1st round.
Swimming against Mansfield, Northgate and Droitwich, it soon proved to be a very competitive first round in this West Midlands Division. Knock out swims in particular coming from DSC’s performance squad both individually for men and ladies, but also coming from the freestyle and medley relays. 1st place positions achieved by Michael Judd in the 200IM, Daniel Tuffnell in the 100m Butterfly, Walter Hackett in the 100m backstroke and also from Jessica Medlicott in the 13/u 100m backstroke. With relays included, DSC came away with 11 1st places, 10 2nd places and 14 3rd places.
Final points at the end of the round were as follows;
1st place – Mansfield SC – 182 points
2nd place – Northgate SC – 176 points
3rd place – Droitwich SC – 171 points
4th place – Dunstable – 163 points
In the league so far DSC are sitting in 15th position with a total of 21 teams competing.
Swimmers of the gala went to Maisie Humphrey for swimming many older races than her years, and competing really well and to Daniel Smith for the amount of swimming he had to do this evening, due to illnesses from other swimmers – well done to you both.
In the 2nd round, NASL took DSC to The Newbold Leisure Centre in Leamington Spa. This gala took place on 9 November. This was an even tougher gala, especially as our 9 year old boys were largely replaced due to illness and injury. DSC swam against the following teams and here is the final result;
1st place – Rugby – 189 points
2nd place – Bromsgrove – 186 points
3rd place – Etwall Eagles – 137 points
4th place – Northgate – 121 points
5th place – Dunstable – 111 points
Well done to Walter Hackett for his 2 1st place positions, and to all those that helped achieve 9 2nd places and 9 3rd place positions for DSC.
Swimmers of the gala went to Tatenda Musendeki and Jessica Medliott for their outstanding racing on the night! – well done to you both.
Following this 2nd round DSC have dropped a few places to 18th in the league tables.
DSC’s 3rd round was back in Leamington Spa and took place on 14th December. DSC were back to their best, and achieved a very credible 4th place on the night. They were swimming against the following teams, and here are the results;
1st place – Stratford Sharks SC – 202 points
2nd place – Flitwick Dolphins – 155 points
3rd place – Halesowen SC – 143 points
4th place – Dunstable – 132 points
5th place – Warley Wasps – 106 points
On this 3rd round DSC achieved 5 1st place positions, 9 2nd places and 14 3rd places. Swimmers of the gala went to Milley Dudley (15) and Alex Kopacz (9) where at both ends of the spectrum Millie achieved a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in her individual swims and Alex who for him, was his first competitive gala ever! was extremely brave especially as he was ill poolside!! Well done to you both.
Overall over the 3 rounds, DSC finished in 19th place, with gala points totalling 460 and 8 bonus points. This is incredible news, as we remain in Division 2 in the West Midlands League for 2020. A huge congratulations to all our swimmers and coaches!
Thank you to all DSC swimmers that competed and did their best, for what is a high profile event. Thank you also to the organisers and supporters that make this event so well organised with over 15,000 swimmers competing all across the country on the same night!
