Luton Open – September 2019!

DSC recently competed at the Luton Open over the weekend of 28/29 September 2019.  A great level 3 gala early in the autumn, to give the swimmers every chance of gaining a county qualifying time. Lots of medals were won, lots of PB’s were gained and quite a few swimmers reached those county qualifying standards – well done to everyone.

A snapshot of DSC’s results are as follows;

A fabulous long distance swim met our girls Jenny Davis and Bryony Mathias who eased into a fabulous gold and silver medal respectively in the 1500m freestyle. Both of these swims were county qualifying times, and for Jenny this was also a club record. Well done.

Chloe Medlicott continued the trend in the long distance success with a dazzling 400m freestyle knocking 32 seconds off her time and claiming a bronze medal! Sister Jessica claimed a silver medal in the 200IM knocking nearly 10 seconds off her time and a brilliant new DSC club record – well done girls!

Millie Dudley enjoyed a great opener in the season with 2 new pb’s and pulled out a 28.84 in the 50m freestyle.  In the 50m butterfly Millie swims another great pb in a time of 30.16.  In the 50m backstroke Millie achieves a great new pb in a time of 32.32 giving her her 3rd winter regional qualifying time.

William and Joshua Hamm both achieved new pb’s in their 50m butterfly in 32.58 and 35.66 respectively, with William clinching the bronze medal.

Elliot Kefford achieved a brand new pb in his 100m freestyle swimming in 1.07.

Cameron Vassallo Todaro managed a fabulous 10 second PB in his 100m freestyle, whilst Thea Brazel-Hawkins claims the bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke.

Hannah Swan swam excellently over the Saturday competititon and achieved 5 new pb’s in all 5 races that she swum.  On the Sunday Hannah also smashes out the best 100m backstroke, with the best swim of the session – All in all 7 races over the weekend for Hannah and 7 brilliant new PB’s – well done!

Maisie Humphrey managed a fab 2 second pb in the 100m butterfly swimming in 1.16.03 

A huge PB for Daniel Richards in the 100m breaststroke, giving him a time of 1.25.95

Walter Hackett post surgery still manages a 1.10.42 in the 100m breaststroke, which was right on PB.

Huge PB’s also coming from George Wallis-Smith and Liam Murray in the 100m breaststroke, with times of 1.35.46 and 1.56.80 respectively.

Jenny Davis continued the long distance theme on the Sunday morning and won a gold medal in the 400IM with a CQT and another huge PB and achieving another DSC club record.  Jenny went onto swim the 800m Freestyle, where she achieved a fantastic Bronze medal.  A fabulous long distance Open for her this weekend – well done Jenny!

For Skylar Alderson an awesome 6 races were swum with 4 of them new PB’s.

Amber Flitton a younger member of the DSC squad achieved a fab new pb in the backstroke and claimed a silver medal for her efforts – very well done.

Bryony Mathias went on to swim the 100m butterfly and achieved a brand new PB in 1.28.09.

Austin White also claims a pb in the 50m freestyle in a time of 30.95.

DSC are now preparing busily for National Intercounties in Sheffield, where Walter Hackett and Jessica Kefford will be representing DSC for Bedfordshire.

We then have our National Arena League campaign commencing on 12th October, 1st round is to be held in Tamworth.

Finally at time of writing Joshua Hamm wins the Bedford Junior Aquathlon, with Bethany Swan in 2nd place and Hannah Swan in 3rd, brilliant achievements by all 3 with a combined swim and run – well done.
