Luton Open Meet – September 2018!
DSC competed at their first open meet of the season in absolute cracking style over the weekend of 29 and 30 September 2018. Held at the stunning Inspire Sports village in Luton, this was a level 3 meet so ideal for gaining county qualifying times. This meet was short course.
Results came thick and fast for DSC, with so many highlights; (full results can be found in the login section of the website)
Walter Hackett swam fantastically in his 50m free and is now 2nd in the East Region and 33rd nationally in his 15 yr old age group in 25.44. He also takes a 2 second pb off his 200m free 2.04.4 and puts him 12th in the region.
Olivia Cooper who has not been successful in her 50m butterfly for quite some time, does a technically brilliant swim and gains a pb and silver medal, whilst Ruby Thasan wins the gold for DSC. The two girls had an extremely successful meet, for Olivia 6 events, 5 pb’s and 4 medals and for Ruby 4 golds and 2 bronze’s with pb’s galore. Huge well done girls.
Oliver Ellison gains his 2nd winter Regional Qualifying time at this event 50m free and also in the 50m back – well done Ollie. Meanwhile younger brother Louie gains 2 brand new pb’s.
Straight PB’s in the 100m freestyle event came from Ruby Collins, Millie Dudley and Jessica Kefford – well done girls.
Mitchell Burgess swam his 200m freestyle in 2.47.06 a mere 18 second pb! Thomas Fantini follows with a fantastic 2.27.69 over a 3 second in the 14 and 15 yr age group respectively.
3 DSC girls in the 800m freestlye saw Amy Shaw beat her old time take a massive 4 mins and 15 seconds off her time! Eloise Harper takes 37 seconds off hers and Chloe Medlicott swimming her first ever long distance race swims in 13.26.38 – well done girls!
Michael Judd see’s an impressive 4 second pb in his 200IM in 2.12.18 and also in his 100m backstroke – Tough swimming at this high men’s level, but Michael taking it all in his stride and training very hard.
Callum Shepherd also gains a 4 second pb in his 200IM in a time of 2.28.82
Every single 50m backstroke swimmer for girls bettered or equalled their pb, Skylar Alderson managing a 7 second PB in this event, and Holly Fantini 4 seconds faster than her PB. So early in the season this is fantastic swimming!
Stand out swim came from Millie Dudley on her 100m butterfly in 1.11.45 over 9 seconds taken off her PB! Grabs a gold medal and swims herself up the regional rankings to 10th place – Millie swam in 6 events and gained 4 golds and 2 bronze medals – outstanding swimming Millie!
Katherine Kirkwood swims a 40.62 for her first ever 50m backstroke.
In the 100m girls backstroke Hannah Swan has a great swim and clocks 1.31.58 and a CQT, Chloe Medlicott pb’s massively gaining a new pb of 1.27.46 completely destroying her entry time, Robyn Matthews shows a lovely smooth backstroke and registers 1.47.09. Bethany Harwood takes 3 seconds off her entry time. Amy Shaw achieves a 1.20.59 a great swim.
Great swims from the boys 100m breaststroke with Will Richards securing his summer RQT in a time of 1.09.52 and brother Daniel securing a CQT in 1.28.83.
Lily Swan and Bryony Mathias, Chloe Medlicott, Jenny Davis (CQT and new club record) and Skylar Alderson all put in super performances in the 400m freestyle event PB’s for all.
Fantastic swims for the girls 400IM. PB’s for Lily Swan and Isabella Porzio who also achieved her first ever county time in this event and clinched a silver medal.
Astonishing gutsy swim also came from George Wallis-Smith who swam his first ever 1500m freestyle. He achieved a great time of 23 minutes and is now up and running on rankings. Well done George a tough event!
Jenny Davis gains a new club record and and PB in her 200m butterfly, taking an extremely long record held by Chantal Smith. Well done Jenny – awesome swim in a very tough event.
Francesca Humphrey 1st ever 100m breaststroke and achieves her first county time – well done Fran!
Elliot Kefford gains a 2 second pb on his 100m free in a new time of 1.08.
Rhianne Carrick winning a brilliant silver and bronze medals in her 100m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke.
The Hamm twins William and Joshua managed 2 new pb’s a piece in the 50m and 100m backstroke and William gained a bronze in the 100m butterfly.
Other great performances came from Annabella Vassallo-Todaro and brother Carmelo, Daniel Tuffnell and sister Isabel, sisters Erin and Eva Meenan, Jessica Kefford in her blistering 100m freestyle, brothers Kieran and Liam Murray, Maia Morgan securing her RQT in breaststroke, Maisie Humphrey, Stefan Bennett (his first ever open meet, and a long day with races at either end!), and Thea Brazel-Hawkins winning her heat in the 100m breaststroke.
Well done to everyone at this first open meet of the 2018 swimming season.
