Long Distance Splash – 2018!
On a very early morning on 25 November 2018, some brave swimmers took to the pool in St. Albans to compete in a long distance splash. The DSC committee wanted to give every opportunity for qualification to the swimmers interested in swimming the 1500m and 800m freestyle events at the 2019 Beds County Championships. For the first time ever boys are able to compete in the 800m freestyle, and girls in the 1500m. The reversing of the distances has become very popular, and as many meets were already full, DSC made arrangements to run their own long distance splash meet.
All swimmers on the morning gave exceptional performances, and worked really hard for their times. A special mention goes to 12 year old Jenny Davis who with just a second off her required qualifying time, still managed to swim 30 seconds quicker than her practice runs.
Full results are as follows;
Lily Swan – 11.36.03 PB
Eloise Harper – 12.32.18 PB
Bethany Harwood – 12.11.45 PB
Bryony Mathias – 12.43.99 PB
Joshua Hamm – 11.55.34 PB and New Club Record
Mitchell Burgess – 24.25.78 PB
Amy Shaw – 22.19.38 PB and New Club Record
Jenny Davis – 24.34.73 PB and New Club Record
Brave swims from all and a very long way too, well done to all. DSC will have representatives in both long distance races at the forthcoming Beds County Championships 2019.
With huge thanks to the DSC committee, officials, coaches and all volunteers for running this event at 8am on a Sunday morning!
