DSC Launches It’s Virtual Platform!
DSC has launched it’s Virtual Activities Schedule, and we are thrilled that it has been a huge success! Its enabling our swimmers to remain fit and ready to return to the pool, but also keep our many families engaged with the club. We have received great feedback on these activities, and we have shown already that there really is something for everyone from Zumba, Yoga and Hiit through to our fantastic Friday night socials including Bingo, Scavenger Hunts and our ever popular Quiz Nights.
The DSC committee realised very early on in the Corona Virus Pandemic and in these unprecedented times, that we needed to ensure that as a club we remained engaged with our swimmers and their families. Head Coach Tim Hutton and the DSC committee have been working tirelessly on providing a virtual platform via Zoom to offer; 1) A fitness related programme to ensure our young athletes remain fit to return to the pool once safe to do so, 2) An educational platform where we have invited speakers such as Mark Foster the Ex Olympian Swimmer for a Q&A session with our swimmers, along with Swim England Pathway Development Manager Kevin Pickard and 3) A fun platform for Friday socials for all the family to enjoy – virtually.
As a club we have committed to providing access to qualified and knowledgeable land training coaches – most families will know Devan Andrews from his work with us. He is working weekly with all our squads (excluding Academy, due to insurance reasons). We have also introduced Aga, an experienced Yoga coach to help with flexibility & strength training for our Competition Bagcat, Sprint and Performance Squads, and this week we have Zumba with Steph Baudino! We urge all those swimmers who are invited to join these sessions to come and join in you will see the benefits – we promise!
We are also running education and training sessions. On Sunday 19th April, we held a poolside helpers course for those 13 and over. 13 swimmers completed this course successfully and we look forward to seeing them all poolside very soon. This was a recognised course and free to our members.
DSC is a non-profit club, but for some activities we have asked for a small contribution in order to run them successfully. These additional fund raisers like our Quiz Nights enable us to engage other speakers and fitness coaches on a regular basis. The fund raisers are a key way for you to have fun and for us to support our swimmers – and we really look forward to seeing you, and your friends and family. An hour of fun on a Friday can make the world of a difference in the current climate. Congratulations to our Quiz Night family winners ‘The Brazel-Hawkins’, to our Bingo family winners ‘Coopers’ ‘Dexters’ and ‘Harpers’ and finally to our Scavenger Hunt Winners the ‘Crozier’ family. All prizes have now been safely delivered to you all.
Please ensure you keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter which is where we post reminders and emails for those Zoom invites, which have personal ID logins for you.
We look forward to seeing you Virtually soon!
