Council Grant Helps Ryan to a "clean sweep" |
|
Dunstable swimming Club's Ryan Drawbridge was
recently awarded a "talented individual" grant by South Beds District Council
to help towards the costs of a swimming Training Camp in Barcelona. The grant
is awarded to individuals who have achieved a level of excellence in their
chosen field and have the potential to go further, it is designed to assist
with training or equipment costs.
Ryan, who attends Parkfields Middle School in Toddington, was the
youngest swimmer selected to attend the intensive training camp in Barcelona,
along with 18 other members of Dunstable Swimming Club's performance squad. The
training consisted of two 2 hour swimming sessions per day in a 50m Olympic
standard pool along with land training and teambuilding exercises.
Upon his return from Spain, Ryan competed in Dunstable Swimming Club's
annual championship sweeping the board in the 12 to 13 year old boys age group
category, winning all 6 events to achieve maximum points. He then went on to
win the Junior Skins Trophy (a knock out sprint event) as well. At the Club's
recent annual presentation night, he was presented with the Club Champion
Trophy for his age group and receive the Junior
Boys "Swimmer of the Year" plaque for his year's achievements.
It
was an enjoyable but hard week of training, however, Ryan believes that the
training camp certainly helped with his successes at the Club Championships and
is looking forward to competing at the County Swimming Championships in March.
