Club info - History

Dunstable Swimming Club was founded in 1975. The club was a “break away” from what was then the Luton & Vauxhall swimming club. The founder members were Ron Aggat, Elaine and Derek Filmer, Aubrey Fernandez, Peter Crick, David Moss and Dennis Page. Aubrey Fernandez became the first Chairman and Dennis Filmer the Chief Coach.

From relatively humble beginnings, the club grew into a very successful competitive club, with Paul Bavister representing England and Debbie and Helen Page competing for the English Synchronised Team.

In the past, a significant numberof Dunstable swimmers have qualified and competed at the GB nationals.

Following a period of instability at the turn of the Millennium, the club is again developing into competitive and ambitious club. We have approximately 130 swimming members of varied abilities up to National Qualification standard. We compete in a number of different leagues throughout the year including the Arena League. Our performance squad went on its first intensive training camp in October 2007 (see news story) and subsequently went to Italy in 08 and Mallorca in 09.

After a quick succession of different head coaches, the club experienced some success in January 09 when they were promoted to the Second Division of the National Arena Swimming League. Unfortunately due to a tricky first round and a team crippled by illness, the club was demoted again back to the Third Division by the end of the year. Despite this, the club is progressing once more and is eager for the competition this year is bound to hold.
