Chiltern League Round 2 – 2018

DSC continued their Chiltern League campaign in Round 2 with a 5th place position overall! Held at the Tiddenfoot Pool in Leighton Buzzard – the gala took place on Saturday 17th March 2018.

DSC were swimming against Aylesbury, Linslade Crusaders, Henley, Witney and Flitwick Dolphins- a tough draw! Chiltern League is as always a ‘no faster than’ gala, where speeding tickets can be issued and no points won. An extremely difficult league, since all swimmers are taught to race as fast as they can. This being a C grade gala, they cannot go too fast, so it is imperative in order to gain maximum points, they stay within the speed limits.

The gala had a tremendous atmosphere from the outset, and even at the half way point the teams were only separated by a few points. The relays particularly at the end, were very exciting with the Dunstable parents in the spectator gallery in full voice. The team enjoyed 9 1st place positions and 10 2nd place positions, but unfortunately DSC were too fast in 6 different races.  They also picked up some DQ’s due to the lack of experience within the team.  In round 3 many of these areas can be looked at, especially as our swimmers will feel more confident as they progress.

The overall points at the end of the gala were as follows;

1st place – Linslade Crusaders – 206

2nd place – Aylesbury – 184

3rd place – Witney – 157

4th place – Flitwick – 152

5th place – Dunstable – 151

6th place – Henley – 132

All DSC swimmers tried their very best on the night. Swimmers of the gala went to Thomas Fantini and Adeola Akande for their outstanding contribution to the gala – well done to both of them.

DSC sits in Division 1 of the Chiltern League table.  In 12 teams we are currently in 9th position with 281 points.  The leaders are Linslade Crusaders currently with 430 points.  It is all to swim for in round 3!

Round 3 will be held on 21st April 2018 venue tbc – Good luck to the team!
