Central Beds Swim Squad Open Meet – March 2018!
DSC recently competed at the CBSS Open Meet that took place at the Biggleswade Pool over the weekend of 10 and 11 March 2018. This was a level 2 meet, so the competition was very high. Quite a large squad from DSC were able to attend that had the necessary fast qualifying times to compete. A successful weekend for many with further PB’s, medals and RQT’s accomplished.
The highlights of this open meet are as shown below; (full gala results and PB’s can be found via the log-in members area on the homepage)
Kieran Murray (15) kicked off the gala for DSC with a fantastic 400m freestyle, coming in 1st place in a time of 4.43.64. Kieran also managed a great 3rd place in his 400IM in a time of 5.36.61.
Amelia Porzio (10) again had a great meet this weekend, winning gold in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1.26.60, silver in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3.54.94, silver in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.50.00, a gold in the 50m butterfly in 46.53 and finally another super gold in the 50m freestyle in a time of 36.61 – super swimming well done!
Bryony Mathias (11) also swam terrifically well, winning 4 medals over the course of the weekend. The first came in a silver medal in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1.15.57, a bronze in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.29.77, a gold in the 200m freestyle in 2.43.87 and finally another gold in the 50m freestyle in 33.45 – well done Bryony.
Walter Hackett (15) always celebrates great results wherever he goes, and this was no exception. Walter medaled in no less than 6 races, and gaining a new club record in the 100m breaststroke winning gold in a time of 1.11.84. He went on to win a bronze in the 50m butterfly in 30.03, a silver in the 50m freestyle in 26.50, a gold in the 50m backstroke in 28.90, a gold in the 100m backstroke in 1.01.65 and finally a gold in the 50m breaststroke in 33.73.
Sam Mead (16) is swimming exceptionally well at the moment and celebrated 5 podium positions. Sam began his meet winning a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.14.30, a silver in the 100m butterfly in 1.08.47, a bronze in 50m backstroke in 30.92, a silver in 200m breaststroke in 2.45.16 and finally a bronze in the 100m backstroke in 1.09.09. In Sam’s 100m freestyle he broke the sub minute barrier for the very first time gaining a brand new pb in 59.23 (amazing swimming Sam well done!)
Michael Judd (20) medaled twice at this meet, winning a gold medal in the 200m backstroke and gaining a new regional qualifying time at the same time. He swam this in an incredible new pb of 2.12.46 (well done!). He also won a gold in the 100m breaststroke in a new time of 1.10.08.
Billy Mead (13) Two podium finishes for Billy this weekend, but overall some fab swims coming from him over the weekend. He won gold in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2.25.30 and a silver in the 200m IM in a time of 2.44.45, both new pb’s.
Callum Shepherd (15) Two medals for Callum too this weekend. A great bronze medal in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2.12.90 and another bronze in the 100m backstroke in 1.08.79. Both new PB’s.
Isabella Porzio (14) Izzy gained two medals too. A bronze in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3.01.95 and a fab gold medal in the 100m breaststroke bettering her pb by a whole second even from last weeks competition. She finished in 1.22.69 – well done!
Maia Morgan (15) also finished the meet with two podium finishes. She gained a gold medal in her 200m breaststroke in a time of 2.58.83, and a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 37.77 – well done Maia.

Finally but by no means least Ruby Thasen (10) on her debut open meet swim gained a fantastic bronze medal in her 50m freestyle in a fantastic pb of 38.69 – well done.
