National Arena League Rd 2 2017
Dunstable Swimming Club got the 2nd leg of the National Arena League 2017 off to a fantastic start with a great 4th place position in their West Midlands Division 2 gala following promotion in 2016. Held at the brand new Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester on 11th November 2017, DSC swimmers were on good form despite the long journey on a coach. Special mention goes to the 13 Year old Girls on the night, as many swam 5 races or more and each made an outstanding contribution.
ASA East Winter Regionals 2017!
ASA East Winter Regionals 2017 took place from the 3rd to 5th November 2017. Held at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich – an amazing weekend of top class competitive swimming, where four of our fantastic DSC swimmers qualified. Difficult enough to qualify with exceptionally fast times needed, our fabulous four did the club proud with some outstanding swims, some fabulous new PB’s and winning their heats in quite a few cases. Our swimmers were Michael Judd, William Richards, Michael Flanagan and Maia Morgan. Well done to all of them on their superb swimming this weekend, and to all of the DSC coaches and parents who helped get them there….
Flitwick Open October 2017!
A large DSC squad recently competed at the Flitwick Open held at the Biggleswade Leisure Centre over the weekend of 21 and 22 October 2017. DSC really shone at this meet boasting 24 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 30 bronze medals. Gaining so many medals meant that DSC came 3rd overall in the results table for visiting clubs – tremendous achievement! The swimmers also enjoyed gaining new PB’s that will set them up well for County Championships in January 2018. For competitors like Michael Judd aged 19 a fantastic chance to nail a couple of Summer Regional Times early – he did do just that with some phenomenal swims! National Arena League Rd 1 2017
Dunstable Swimming Club got the 1st leg of the National Arena League 2017 off to a fantastic start with a great 5th place position in their West Midlands Division 2 gala following promotion in 2016. Held at the Droitwich Leisure Centre on 14th October 2017, DSC swimmers were on good form. Swimming against some really excellent teams, this was a massive step up for DSC, but they worked hard all evening and all produced some excellent results.
Long Distance Splash & National Inter-Counties!
Some of DSC’s super swimmers embarked on a long distance splash on Saturday 7th October 2017 at the Flitwick Leisure Centre. For some, this was their first long distance officiated swim, for others they were looking to refresh times and PB or were aiming to achieve times good enough to take to counties in January 2018. The girls swam 800m freestyle events, 32 lengths of the pool and the boys swam the 1500m freestyle, 60 lengths of the pool! Everyone swam terrifically well on the night and really showed their skills, stamina and endurance in this event. For full results read on… Meanwhile 4 of DSC’s swimmers Will Richards, Walter Hackett, Ollie Ellison and Jessica Kefford were selected to swim for Bedfordshire at the National Inter-Counties in Sheffield. A huge stage for them and they did not disappoint, bringing home new PB’s and helping to ensure that Bedfordshire achieved the highest points on the table since 2010! For further details read on….
Splash 3 – September 2017
Held on 30th September 2017 at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, DSC competed with fantastic results. Many brand new swimmers to the club, gaining new personal bests. Dunstable Swimming Club would like to thank all the officials and volunteers for helping make another successful meet. Over the same weekend we also had DSC’s breaststroker Maia Morgan in action at the K2 long course in Crawley, producing some blistering results. Also three of our swimmers Jessica Kefford, Isabella Porzio and Sam Mead were at the Golden Eagle Meet hosted by Modernians SC but held at Bletchley on the same weekend. They too did phenomenally well.
Team Luton Autumn Short Course Meet 2017
A small group of DSC swimmers recently competed at the Team Luton autumn short course meet over the weekend of 23 and 24 September 2017. Spectators looking on within DSC were really impressed, as the team attended to enable them to grab county, winter regional times, and even summer regional times for next year, and they did not disappoint – they did just that!
Bee Allen Gala – 2017!
DSC have recently competed for the Bee Allen Cup that was hosted by Dunstable but held at the Stantonbury Leisure Centre in Milton Keynes on Saturday 16th September 2017. Bee Allen was of course a great coach herself teaching well over a 1000 swimmers in Dunstable, so the gala is always one that the swimmers enjoy and put maximum effort into.
Junior League Round 3 – 2017
DSC continued their Junior League campaign in earnest at the Milton Keynes & District Junior Swimming League competition at the Hemel Hempstead Pool on 9 September 2017. Experience of the 1st and 2nd rounds definitely paid off for our less experienced junior’s, as we achieved a very respectable 4th place position overall, in a very competitive environment in a higher league. This final round was a massive ask on the youngsters, as it was the first gala back after the long summer break, and the teams that competed were of an extremely high calibre. Really very well done to all that competed.
DSC’s 2017 Summer Round-UP!
The end of the summer has been incredibly busy for DSC’s athletes as they have travelled all over the UK competing in long distance, open water, Aquathlons and walks with some fantastic results. August is historically a wind down month, where training in the pool still takes place but the competition period has finished. However, DSC’s swimmers never allow the grass to grow under their feet, and instead made the most of their skills and competed very successfully on many levels…
DSC’s Walter Hackett Awesome at Summer Nationals!
Having claimed the top 14-year-old swimmer award at the Beds County Championships in February, Walter then won gold in the 100m and 200m backstroke, plus silver in the 50m event at the East Region Championships in Norwich in May.
Club Championships Gala 2, 2017!
The second and final gala for DSC’s Club Championships took place on Saturday 15th July, again at the Flitwick Leisure Centre. This gala concentrated on butterfly, freestyle and backstroke. Once again the swimmers did not disappoint, and achieved some really great new PB’s, club records and took away many medals and trophies. Well done to all the swimmers that took part in DSC’s club championships 2017.
Scottish Nationals and Open Water Champs 2017!
Club Championships Gala 1 2017.
DSC began it’s new format club championships on Saturday 8th July in earnest with a very exciting gala, where as usual DSC swimmers compete against each other collecting points as they race, to find the overall winner at the end in each age category. This year DSC’s club champs are very different, in that for the first time they are not being held at the Dunstable pool, but the Flitwick Leisure Centre instead. The champs are also over 2 weekends, instead of the historical 3. Our swimmers seemed to enjoy competing together in a new pool environment, and there were some fantastic new pb’s to enjoy and many medals/trophies won.

Terry Davies Watford Open June 2017!
DSC recently visited the Watford Leisure Centre, and competed in the Terry Davis Watford Open over the weekend of 17 and 18 June 2017. The Watford Opens have become essential galas’s for DSC, not only because of the excellent competition but also because this is a fast pool and our swimmers always achieve excellent results here. Jnr League Round 1 & John Honey Cup!
DSC began their Junior League in earnest at the Milton Keynes & District Junior Swimming League competition at the Hemel Hempstead Pool on 3 June 2017. It was safe to say from the outset, that this would be a much more difficult league table to compete in, as of course DSC were promoted following last years competition. Coming in in 4th place, the swimmers gave it their best shot. The following weekend DSC competed at the John Honey Gala with outstanding results. Our more seasoned swimmers were involved, and bagged themselves a very respectable 2nd place.
Regionals Weekends – Seniors and Juniors!
Finally May 2017 arrived and it finds DSC’s senior regional qualifiers and junior regional qualifiers meet on two bank holiday weekends, to battle it out in 50m pools against other competitors, from right across the East region. The first weekend was held at Luton’s Inspire pool on the weekend of 29th, 30th April and 1st May. The second weekend was held at the UEA SportsPark in Norwich, over the weekend 27th – 29th May 2017.
Tom Williams Cup Gala 2017!
On Saturday 13 May 2017 DSC hosted The Tom Williams Cup. Held at the Dunstable Leisure Centre this gala was to commemorate an exceptional young man, who remains greatly missed by everyone. It was important for Dunstable to bring home the trophy, as this gala over everything else is for Tom and continues to mean so much to so many.
Splash Night 2 – May 2017!
DSC swimmers enjoyed the second splash night of the year and unfortunately the last one, before the leisure centre closes for 18 months for it’s refurbishment. A great competition, enjoyed by everyone and with top officials present it was certainly memorable. This Splash night also had the added bonus of the sound of a horn that went off to begin random heats. If it was your heat when the horn sounded, and you win your heat – you win a prize. This gala also had a fantastic fundraising element which will help DSC no end with the forthcoming closure. The gala was held at Dunstable Leisure Centre on the evening of 6th May 2017.

Dunstable Swimming Club team up with The Pilates Workshop for a new training regime!
Today, our dedicated regional competition targeted swimmers, who are committed to their vigorous training schedules, teamed up with The Pilates Workshop in Dunstable.
The Pilates Workshop put together a specific Pilates programme to help our swimmers achieve their potential for this year’s Regional event.
Chiltern Rd 3, Wycombe LC Meet & Luton Open!
DSC continued their Chiltern League campaign in the 3rd and final round. The team went into this 3rd round 5 gala points clear of the rest of the teams, unfortunately the evening wasn’t going to be theirs with a 4th place on the night. The gala was again held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard on the evening of Saturday 22nd April 2017.
Watford Regional Qualifier – March 2017
DSC recently competed at the Watford Regional Qualifing meet that was held at the Woodside Leisure Centre over the weekend of 18 and 19 March 2017. This meet was a level 2 meet and designed for swimmers to gain regional times at the forthcoming championships, held at either Inspire in Luton (seniors), or Norwich (juniors). The meet also gave an excellent opportunity to improve on times already gained. A fast pool with fast swimmers, DSC performed exceptionally well as usual.
Chiltern League Round 2 – 2017!
DSC continued their Chiltern League campaign with a fantastic 1st place position overall! Held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard on Saturday 18th March 2017, this was largely a group of new DSC swimmers to the Chiltern League Competition.
Mid Beds Open – 2017!
The Mid Beds Meet took place on the weekend of 11th and 12th March 2017 and was a level 2. The Open took place at the Biggleswade pool, which is short course. This was an important gala for many especially those seeking new Regional Qualifying Times, or better the ones already achieved. DSC did brilliantly over the whole weekend, achieving PB’s, Medals and RQT’s galore.
Chiltern League, Rd 1 – 2017!
DSC started their Chiltern League campaign with a fantastic 1st place position overall! Held at the Aquavale Leisure Centre in Aylesbury on Saturday 25th February 2017, this was largely a group of new DSC swimmers to the Chiltern League Competition – so a nervous 1st round for them.
Splash Night – Feb 2017!
The first DSC Splash night of the year was held at the Dunstable Leisure Centre on Saturday 18th February 2017. A very busy night with around 120 swimmers competing. DSC were also very fortunate to have a large number of Beds officials poolside which made for a very enjoyable night of racing, and the club were very grateful they were present. As this was a level 4 gala and licenced, all PB’s are included on rankings. Results are 1st-3rd place only…..
Beds County Champs 2017!
Dunstable Swimming Club have recently celebrated the most successful counties in it’s recent history! With some 50 qualifiers, the biggest medal haul ever and the highest regional qualifying swimmers since 2005, the team had every reason to be extremely proud of it’s achievements. The competition was held over 2 weekends, and was long course – being swum in the 50m pool in Luton’s magnificent Inspire. The dates of the gala were 27/29 January (taking into account long distance racing) and 4/5 February 2017. (Read more…)
National Arena Swimming League, Rd 3 – 2016!
Dunstable Swimming Club got the 3rd and final leg of the National Arena League 2016 off to a great start with a magnificent 2nd place position in their West Midlands Three East Gala. Held at the Bletchley Leisure Centre on 10th December 2016, DSC swimmers were on fantastic form throughout the gala. On completion of the 3 competitions, Dunstable SC have gained 2nd place overall in the league table which means a long awaited promotion to Division 2, 10 years in the making!! DSC would like to thank all coaches, swimmers, parents and volunteers for this magnificent achievement. The club is as proud as it could possibly be, ending an epic year of swimming also winning Junior League earlier in the year – well done to everyone involved!
