Luton Open Meet – September 2018!
DSC competed at their first open meet of the season in absolute cracking style over the weekend of 29 and 30 September 2018. Held at the stunning Inspire Sports village in Luton, this was a level 3 meet so ideal for gaining county qualifying times. This meet was short course.
Bee Allen Cup Gala 2018!
DSC have recently competed for the Bee Allen Cup that was hosted by Dunstable but held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard on Saturday 8th September 2018. Bee Allen was of course a great coach herself teaching well over a 1000 swimmers in Dunstable, so the gala is always one that the swimmers enjoy and put maximum effort into.
DSC’s Hackett Achieves 4th in Great Britain!
Dunstable Swimming Club’s Walter Hackett has had a fantastic British Summer Championships, held at the Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre in Sheffield from 24th July through to 29th July 2018.
Each year British Swimming invite the top twenty four age group swimmers in each event to the National Championships. With events spread over 6 days the competition is the pinnacle of the age group swimming season.
East Region Open Water Champs 2018
Our fabulous DSC Open Water squad took to the lake at Whitlingham Park in Norfolk this weekend (22nd July 2018) with some amazing results! Open Water swimming is not for the faint hearted, but all competitors had some experience from previous events. Kieran Murray and Callum Shepherd swam in the Men’s 15/16 Yr old 2k event, Alan Shepherd and Simon Murray swam in the Men’s 40/49 Yr old 2k event, Isabella Porzio DSC’s only girl swam the 3k event in the Women’s 13/16 Yr old age group and finally our very own senior coach Steve Kerr swam the very exhausting 5k event in the 50/59 age group! A massive well done to each and every one of you. A huge amount of stamina and resilience is needed at these events but we do hope that with more of our swimmers training and competing at the open water champs, there will be a lot more interest for others too.
Club Champs Weekend 2 – 2018!
DSC concluded their 2018 club championships on Sunday 15th July with a very exciting gala. As before, DSC swimmers compete against each other collecting points as they race, to find the overall winner at the end in each age category. Again being run on a Sunday morning as opposed to a Saturday night, our swimmers seemed to enjoy competing together over a morning in the wonderful St. Albans school facilities once again. There were some fantastic new pb’s to enjoy and many medals/trophies won – a great celebration of everyone’s hard work… To top off these club champs, we also enjoyed a very fast and furious skins event. These swimmers were drawn from the 6 fastest in the previous 200m freestyle events for boys/girls/seniors and juniors. This is a sudden elimination round to leave the overall winner in the 50m freestyle. Well done to everyone that qualified and competed, it certainly was very exciting!
Terry Davis Watford Open 2018!
The Terry Davis Watford Open County Qualifier took place on 23rd and 24th June at the Woodside Leisure Centre in Watford. A squad of 44 swimmers from DSC competed over the weekend, with astonishing results. Out of the 13 teams at this level 3 meet, DSC came in a brilliant 3rd place on the points/medal table! with Watford in 1st and St. Albans in 2nd place.
Club Championships Gala 1 2018!
DSC began their 2018 club championships on Sunday 10th June in earnest with a very exciting gala, where as usual DSC swimmers compete against each other collecting points as they race, to find the overall winner at the end in each age category. This year DSC’s club champs are quite different again, being run on a Sunday morning as opposed to a Saturday night. Over 2 weekends again, instead of the historical 3, our swimmers seemed to enjoy competing together over a morning in the wonderful St. Albans school facilities. There were some fantastic new pb’s to enjoy and many medals/trophies won – a great celebration of everyone’s hard work…
Jnr League Round 1 & John Honey Cup 2018!
DSC began their Junior League in earnest at the Milton Keynes & District Junior Swimming League competition at the Henley Pool on 2nd June 2018. It was safe to say from the outset, that this would be a much more difficult league table to compete in, as of course DSC were promoted 2 years prior. Coming in in 5th place, the swimmers gave it their best shot. The following weekend DSC competed at the John Honey Gala (9th June) with outstanding results. Our more seasoned swimmers were involved, and bagged themselves a very respectable 2nd place.
Junior Regional Champs 2018- (Weekend 2)
Seven of our sensational junior swimmers recently attended the summer regional championships, held in Luton’s long course pool over the weekend 26-28 May 2018. For those waiting in anticipation at home, we were in for a treat when results starting to come in via Twitter over the weekend! Supporters went wild when we heard of siblings Jessica Kefford and Elliot Kefford in finals and others establishing winter regional qualifying times, gaining new PB’s and rising up the GB rankings. This again, was a very special regional championships for DSC, considering we have no home pool of our own! A massive well done to the swimmers, coaches, committee and parents for all your hard work and support over both regional weekends.
Tom Williams Cup Gala 2018
On Saturday 12 May 2018 DSC hosted The Tom Williams Cup. Held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre. This gala was to commemorate an exceptional young man, who remains greatly missed by everyone. It was important for Dunstable to bring home the trophy, as this gala over everything else is for Tom and continues to mean so much to so many.
Senior Regional Champs 2018 (Weekend 1)
Six of our sensational senior swimmers recently attended the summer regional championships, held in Norwich’s long course pool over the weekend 5-7 May 2018. For those waiting in anticipation at home, we were in for a treat when results starting to come in via Twitter over the weekend! Supporters went wild when we heard of Michael Judd and Walter Hackett in finals, and to learn we were 9th out of 26 teams on day 2 in the medal table – finishing 10th overall out of 30 teams by the end of day 3, with no less than 3 gold medals from Walter, it was a very special regional championships for DSC. A massive well done to everyone!
Splash Night 2 – April 2018!
DSC celebrated another fantastic Splash night on 28 April 2018. Held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard, this gala had fantastic attendance with senior and academy swimmers in abundance. This second splash night of the year again saw many of the older more experienced swimmers mentoring the younger ones, and swimmers also enjoyed the ‘buzzer’ where a noise would sound at the start of a race, and the winner of the heat would win a prize. This was welcomed by many of our swimmers and added to the excitement of the evening. This was also another fantastic fundraising night, where over £150.00 was raised once again for DSC.
Chiltern Round 3 – April 2018!
DSC continued their Chiltern League campaign in Round 3 with a fantastic 2nd place position overall! Held at the Tiddenfoot Pool in Leighton Buzzard for this final round and hosted by Dunstable Swimming Club itself. The gala took place on Saturday 21st April 2018.
Luton Level One Meet April 2018!
DSC promoted and attended the Luton Level One Meet that took place at Inspire in Luton over the weekend of 14 and 15 April 2018. As this was a level one licensed gala, all swimmers were at an extremely high level, and this showed by the accepted and rejected entries seen online beforehand! This was a very important meet to attend, as not only was it the last chance to grab a regional qualifying time for the 14’s and under’s, but also those in the national window for qualifying times needed to attend as well.
Splash Night 1 – March 2018!
DSC held their first Splash night of the year on Saturday 24 March 2018 at St Albans School. It was a brilliant gala in so many ways right from the organisation, the venue, the fundraising and to the swimmers themselves who swam out of their skins and achieved some excellent new PB’s particularly our Academy Squads.
Chiltern League Round 2 – 2018
DSC continued their Chiltern League campaign in Round 2 with a 5th place position overall! Held at the Tiddenfoot Pool in Leighton Buzzard – the gala took place on Saturday 17th March 2018.
Central Beds Swim Squad Open Meet – March 2018!
DSC recently competed at the CBSS Open Meet that took place at the Biggleswade Pool over the weekend of 10 and 11 March 2018. This was a level 2 meet, so the competition was very high. Quite a large squad from DSC were able to attend that had the necessary fast qualifying times to compete. A successful weekend for many with further PB’s, medals and RQT’s accomplished.
Watford Regional Qualifier!
DSC recently competed at the Watford Regional Qualifier that took place on the weekend of 3 and 4 March 2018 at the Woodside Leisure Centre in Watford. This was a level 3 meet, which meant that any regional qualifying times swum would count in regionals later on in the year – an important meet for our swimmers! This is a long weekend of swimming, but DSC performed brilliantly as our results show….
Chiltern League Round 1 – 2018!
DSC started their Chiltern League campaign with a 5th place position overall! Held at the Tiddenfoot Pool in Leighton Buzzard on Saturday 24th February 2018, this was largely a group of new DSC swimmers to the Chiltern League Competition especially the 10yr old age group – so a nervous 1st round for them.
Bedfordshire County Championships 2018!
DSC began their county champs campaign 2018 in great style this weekend. The championships commenced on 26 January and was held over two weekends long course at Inspire in Luton. The Friday night started with the long distance races. 800m Freestyle for the girls and 1500m for the boys. DSC competed in epic style and were immediately on the medal board with a sensational swim from Kieran Murray gaining a silver medal. As introduced last year 50m and 100m races all have finals with the top 8 swimmers racing again. 200m races upwards find a winner in the various age category heats straight away. DSC managed lots of finals, medaled in most of these, PB’d, gained new Regional Qualification Times in some, and cemented the club as the strongest in Central Bedfordshire coming 4th overall on points!
Aylesbury Christmas Relay Gala 2017!
DSC were invited to Aylesbury’s Christmas Relay Gala on Saturday 16 December 2017. Always a terrific gala to end the swimming year, as it remains highly competitive, but also bags of fun with festive music and lots of silly hats! Held at the Aqua Vale pool in Aylesbury, 6 teams competed on the night – DSC being fabulous as usual with tenths of seconds separating races many times and overall gaining a 2nd place position.
National Arena League – Rd 3 2017!
Dunstable Swimming Club got the 3rd leg of the National Arena League 2017 off to a fantastic start with a great 5th place position in their West Midlands Division 2 gala following promotion in 2016. Held in Tamworth Staffordshire on 9th December 2017, DSC swimmers were on good form despite another long journey on a coach.
Splash Night 4 – November 2017!
DSC’s last Splash Night of 2017 was a terrific event, well attended and tremendously competitive. Held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre on 25th November 2017, our swimmers competed in the 50m and 100m events only. This last Splash also had an extra very exciting dimension to it, in the shape of an IM skins. In order to qualify competitors had to swim the 50m freestyle event, and the fastest 6 swimmers went through to the IM skins final. The stroke swum was picked randomly and a different one was picked through each elimination round. To get the eventual winner, swims had to show not just speed and technical skill but also huge stamina to get to the final round. Sam Mead and Rhianne Carrick were the eventual winners showing immense determination and resilience – well done to you both.
Enfield County Qualifier Nov 2017!
DSC recently competed in Enfield at their county qualifier at the Southbury Road Leisure Centre over the weekend of 18 and 19 November 2017. A new Open Meet for DSC, but one which brought huge success and some regional qualifying times – so early in the season! Well done to everyone that competed, and for all the new PB’s, club records, RQT’s and CQT’s!
National Arena League Rd 2 2017
Dunstable Swimming Club got the 2nd leg of the National Arena League 2017 off to a fantastic start with a great 4th place position in their West Midlands Division 2 gala following promotion in 2016. Held at the brand new Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester on 11th November 2017, DSC swimmers were on good form despite the long journey on a coach. Special mention goes to the 13 Year old Girls on the night, as many swam 5 races or more and each made an outstanding contribution.
ASA East Winter Regionals 2017!
ASA East Winter Regionals 2017 took place from the 3rd to 5th November 2017. Held at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich – an amazing weekend of top class competitive swimming, where four of our fantastic DSC swimmers qualified. Difficult enough to qualify with exceptionally fast times needed, our fabulous four did the club proud with some outstanding swims, some fabulous new PB’s and winning their heats in quite a few cases. Our swimmers were Michael Judd, William Richards, Michael Flanagan and Maia Morgan. Well done to all of them on their superb swimming this weekend, and to all of the DSC coaches and parents who helped get them there….
Flitwick Open October 2017!
A large DSC squad recently competed at the Flitwick Open held at the Biggleswade Leisure Centre over the weekend of 21 and 22 October 2017. DSC really shone at this meet boasting 24 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 30 bronze medals. Gaining so many medals meant that DSC came 3rd overall in the results table for visiting clubs – tremendous achievement! The swimmers also enjoyed gaining new PB’s that will set them up well for County Championships in January 2018. For competitors like Michael Judd aged 19 a fantastic chance to nail a couple of Summer Regional Times early – he did do just that with some phenomenal swims! National Arena League Rd 1 2017
Dunstable Swimming Club got the 1st leg of the National Arena League 2017 off to a fantastic start with a great 5th place position in their West Midlands Division 2 gala following promotion in 2016. Held at the Droitwich Leisure Centre on 14th October 2017, DSC swimmers were on good form. Swimming against some really excellent teams, this was a massive step up for DSC, but they worked hard all evening and all produced some excellent results.
Long Distance Splash & National Inter-Counties!
Some of DSC’s super swimmers embarked on a long distance splash on Saturday 7th October 2017 at the Flitwick Leisure Centre. For some, this was their first long distance officiated swim, for others they were looking to refresh times and PB or were aiming to achieve times good enough to take to counties in January 2018. The girls swam 800m freestyle events, 32 lengths of the pool and the boys swam the 1500m freestyle, 60 lengths of the pool! Everyone swam terrifically well on the night and really showed their skills, stamina and endurance in this event. For full results read on… Meanwhile 4 of DSC’s swimmers Will Richards, Walter Hackett, Ollie Ellison and Jessica Kefford were selected to swim for Bedfordshire at the National Inter-Counties in Sheffield. A huge stage for them and they did not disappoint, bringing home new PB’s and helping to ensure that Bedfordshire achieved the highest points on the table since 2010! For further details read on….
