Pools to Re-open and we take a break from DSC Virtual…
With the long awaited news that our swimming pools will be re-opening on Monday 12th April we are pausing our Virtual Zoom land training from w/c 12th April, we would like to ensure maximum attendance at the pool sessions whilst our Swimmers re-acclimatise back to the water and their training schedules DSC Training schedule March 2021 V1 (2)
We recognise how important strength and conditioning training is as part of the swimmers programme, so our face to face HIIT training with Dev will be open to all squads from Transition to Performance.
DSC will continue to support our swimmers with our hugely, successful Virtual Platform in the future!
DSC Virtual has enabled our swimmers to remain fit and flexible, ready to return to the pool and keep our many families engaged with the club throughout the pandemic. As a club we have committed to providing access to qualified and knowledgeable land training coaches – most families will know Devan Andrews from his work with us. He works weekly with all our squads (excluding Academy, due to insurance reasons). We have also have Aga, an experienced Yoga coach to help with flexibility training, Personal Trainer Alex Law and Fulcrum Sports for Strength and Conditioning!
DSC has received great feedback on these activities, and we have shown already that there really is something for everyone from Fulcrum Sports, Yoga and HIIT through to our fantastic Friday night socials including Bingo, Disco’s, our ever popular Quiz Nights, Race Nights and even an Escape Room!
Please keep an eye out for Emails containing all updates as these changes take place (don’t forget to check your Junk Filters to make sure you don’t miss out!)

DSC Assistant Head Coach Wins Award!
DSC Coach wins National Swim Teacher Award – Huge Congratulations to our Assistant Head Coach Doug Hose.
At the Swimtime Annual Awards ceremony at the end of November, DSC Assistant Head Coach, Doug Hose, picked up first prize for Swim Teacher of the year.
The awards were held online, in keeping with so much else in 2020.
Swimtime are one of the largest swim schools operating in the UK and NI, teaching some 20,000 swimmers a week, so there was some stiff competition.
“My interest in teaching swimming dovetails perfectly with my passion for coaching competitive swimming. I’ve been in the fortunate position to see and mentor swimmers from absolute beginners through to competitive champions”.
Doug has taught all ages and abilities over his ten years with Swimtime, from complete novices and adult beginners to competitive swimmers and triathletes.
Doug’s links with Dunstable Swimming Club facilitated an extension of that pathway through to competitive swimming.
Being a keen swimmer and having swam competitively himself, Doug was keen for his own children to join a swim club.
That journey started 14 years ago at the welcoming environment of Dunstable Swimming Club which soon drew him in to helping coach the younger swimmers.
Over the years he became involved in most aspects of competitive swimming, a qualified ASA judge, a Committee Member, a Beds ASA Committee Member, and now the DSC Assistant Head Coach.
“I hope I have been able to draw on this range of experience to provide my swimmers with the options they need to succeed. Each one is an individual with their own pathway, and it is the flexibility of approach in the Swimtime system that has rewarded me with my swimmers success”.
Doug safely received his award on Friday 18th December at the DW Sports Complex.
Keri Spokes, from Swimtime presented the award and some of Doug’s local swimmers were there to support his latest achievement:
Callum Shepherd, Izzy and Millie Porzio, Annabella and Carmelo Vassallo-Todaro, Harvey and Dexter Riches, Olivia Cooper, and his current Swimtime South East swimmer Logan McGregor.
DSC Virtual Platform…
DSC continues to support our swimmers with our hugely, successful Virtual Platform! It has enabled our swimmers to remain fit and flexible, ready to return to the pool and keep our many families engaged with the club. We have received great feedback on these activities, and we have shown already that there really is something for everyone from Fulcrum Sports, Yoga and Hiit through to our fantastic Friday night socials including Bingo, Disco’s and our ever popular Quiz Nights.
Chiltern Swimming League 2020!
DSC began their Chiltern League campaign on Saturday 22nd February at the AquaVale Pool in Aylesbury. Swam over 3 rounds, the 1st round was a blistering start for the squad as they took 1st place! Always a difficult league in terms of swimmers being restricted to no faster than times – too fast means a speeding ticket and no points for the team. Despite swimming too fast on seven events, the team were victorious in this first round and won the gala by quite some margin – well done all!
Watford SC and Harpenden SC Open Meets!
A great weekend of racing for DSC at the Watford Regional Qualifying Meet over the weekend of 7 and 8 March 2020, and on that Saturday night Harpenden Frantic 50’s meet held at Inspire in Luton. DSC had a small squad of 14 swimmers in Watford, as these athletes were either close to achieving a regional time, or were looking to better an existing time. Only 5 swimmers competed at Harpenden’s meet, but with sensational results over the 4 50m strokes. Well done to everyone that competed over the course of this weekend.
Splash 1 Homecoming and Alumni!
DSC celebrated it’s glittering homecoming to the Dunstable Leisure Centre in style on Saturday 29th February 2020, when it held it’s first Splash of the year for past and present. We enjoyed some 140 swimmers compete in the frantic 50’s and also including the 100IM, and for the younger swimmers the 25m swims. Naturally we witnessed some fantastic swimming right from our Academy through to our Performance squads, but also had DSC coaches past and present competing making for a totally brilliant night! We also had the great privilege of welcoming back Harry Constantine who is an ex Dunstable swimmer. On the radar now for the 2024 Olympic Games, he is certainly one to watch and everyone was glued poolside when he dived in!
Bedfordshire County Champs 2020!
Bedfordshire County Championships 2020 got off to a blistering start on Saturday 18th January 2020. Running over 3 weekends, these county champs are the main highlight in DSC’s competitive calendar. The first Saturday night kicked off with the long course mixed 1500m freestyle, and on the 24th Jan saw the mixed 800m freestyle. The rest of the competitions took place on 25/26 Jan and 1/2 Feb including all the relays. As usual the chosen venue is the fabulous 50m Inspire pool in Luton. As usual DSC turned on the skills and style with some incredible performances, brilliant to see especially now the swimmers have settled back into their home pool at Dunstable once again. We also enjoyed some incredible finals in the 50m sprints and the 100m races, and for the first time mixed medley and mixed free relays that were very exciting. Well done to the whole County Champ Squad!

CMKSC Christmas Cracker Meet – December 2019!
DSC’s last Open Meet before the Christmas break took place at The Bletchley Leisure Centre on Sunday 8th December 2019. This was the squads very last opportunity to clinch any further County Qualifying Times before Counties takes place at the end of January. We witnessed some sensational results, as our swimmers medaled with no less than 28 Gold, Silver and Bronze medals! There was also lots of PB’s achieved along with the county times needed. With thanks to Central Milton Keynes Swimming Club for hosting this event – Important for DSC for those last chance times.
Splash Night 3 – Nov 2019!
The last Splash Night of the year for DSC took place on Saturday 30 November at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard. A fantastic county qualifying splash, but also a superb experience for our newer swimmers just learning the ropes. DSC’s older more experienced swimmers acted as mentors for the younger ones, that worked really well. So many PB’s were achieved, and county qualifying times tumbled. Well done to everyone that competed on the night, and a huge thank you to all the volunteers and officials that make these galas happen. This is the last Splash outside Dunstable, as the club prepare to return back to their home pool at the end of the month.

Bee Allen Trophy Gala 2019!
DSC have recently competed for the Bee Allen Trophy that was hosted by Dunstable but held at the Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre in Leighton Buzzard on Saturday 7th September 2019. Congratulations to all of DSC Open Water competitors who completed their races so brilliantly. Included were; Maisie Humphrey, Annabella Vassallo-Todaro, Bethany Harwood, Amy Shaw, Eloise Harper, George Wallis-Smith, Thomas Fantini and Simon Murray – well done to all.
Tom Williams Cup Gala – 2019!
On Saturday 29 June 2019 DSC hosted The Tom Williams Cup once again. Held at the Saxon Pool in Biggleswade, this gala was to commemorate an exceptional young man, who remains greatly missed by everyone. This gala is arguably our most important fixture on the swimming calendar for DSC as this competition over everything else, is for Tom and continues to mean so much to so many.
Terry Davies Watford Open – 2019
A large DSC squad visited Woodside Leisure Centre in Watford for their Terry Davies Open over the weekend of 22 and 23 June 2019. OB (AKA) Oliver Bradshaw travelled up to the UEA 50m competition pool in Norwich for his Junior Summer East Region Champ Debut. The competition ran from 25 to 27 May 2019. Qualifying for the 50m and 100m breaststroke events on the Sunday and Monday, OB as always pulled out a very gutsy performance in both the races.
Splash Night 2 – May 2019!!
Another massively successful Splash Night for DSC. This second Splash of the year was held on 11th May 2019 at The St. Albans School, and consisted mostly of the frantic 50’s events. The programme of swimming also included the 100IM and 200IM. Bursting with PB’s this internal gala event was brilliant for the swimmers, especially as we finished off the evening with mixed relays right from Academy swimmers through to Performance and this mix was enjoyed by everyone…
DSC’s Sensational Seven at Senior Regional Champs!
DSC’s Senior Regional Championships 2019 started with a BOOM! at the 50m competition pool Inspire Luton. Held over the weekend of 4th/5th May our seven sensational senior qualifiers did not disappoint with medals, pb’s, county records, lifetime bests and no less than 6 finals between them! An exciting weekend for DSC at the Luton Level 1 meet held at Inspire 20/21 April 2019. This gala was a national window qualifier, so some very fast competitive swimming could be seen indeed! Some of DSC’s younger swimmers were also using the competition to gain regional qualifying times and with some truly sensational swimming with many club records broken, they did not disappoint!
Chiltern League 3rd and Final Round – 2019
DSC were once again competing on 6th April for the third and final round of the Chiltern League 2019. This last round was held at the Aylesbury Vale Pool and we faced the highest scoring teams and therefore the toughest draw of all three rounds. We were very proud of this fact however, as it meant we had competed well enough in the first two rounds to be in the premier round at the end! DSC did their best on the night and some swimmers competed multiple times – as a small squad this means working very hard! We are thrilled to bits for the overall results, gaining 6th place overall out of 14 teams!
